The town of Leiston sits in the Suffolk countryside between Aldeburgh and Southwold, and puts you just two miles from the glorious Suffolk coastline. Leiston’s long history can be most obviously seen in the original ruins of Leiston Abbey, which date back to 1363. With some spectacular architectural features, Leiston Abbey is among Suffolk’s most impressive monastic ruins.
This rural town is also a haven for walkers, cyclists and twitchers, being close to the RSPB’s Minsmere nature reserve. Closer to home, a smaller reserve is renowned for its kingfishers and nightingales – the inspiration behind the name of our Nightingale Meadows community.
Leiston has its own leisure centre with swimming pool and gym, a large Co-op supermarket, post office, library, pubs and a range of smaller stores to meet your everyday needs. There is a locally run cinema, thought to be one of the oldest purpose-built cinemas in the country. Leiston has its own primary and high schools and is home to Summerhill, one of the country’s most well-respected free schools.
Neighbouring Saxmundham is less than five miles away. Here, a rail network puts you just 39 minutes from Ipswich and under two hours from London Liverpool Street.
