A fresh start in housebuilding.
Only three weeks into her apprenticeship, Rhianna has just embarked on her learning journey.
In this exploration, we’ll dive into Rhianna’s initial experiences, why she decided to switch careers and what her apprenticeship involves. All whilst experiencing the dynamic and rewarding nature of creating homes from the ground up.
1. What is your current role?
“Trainee Assistant Site Manager at Hopkins Homes.”
2. What made you choose an apprenticeship?
“I discovered an apprenticeship opportunity through my previous role. I was working as a Sales Coordinator at Hopkins Homes when I started conversations with a colleague from the construction team, which sparked my interest in a site-based role.
I was intrigued by the varied workload and the atmosphere on site, so I applied for the role of Trainee Assistant Site Manager which included an opportunity for a qualification with the Chartered Institute of Building.”
3. How long is your apprenticeship?
“My apprenticeship is for 3 years, and I am currently working towards a Level 4 in Construction Site Supervision.”
4. What does your apprenticeship involve?
“I’ve been in my role as a Trainee Assistant Site Manager for 4 months now but have only just started my apprenticeship. It’s an online learning course that I can either complete at home or on-site, once a week. I am now 3-weeks in and currently studying site health & safety.”
5. Do you have a mentor?
“I don’t have an official mentor, but I am learning everything from my Site Manager, Ben Smart, as well as the wider site and construction department team, who are all incredibly supportive.”
6. How does this apprenticeship align with your long-term career goals?
“Although I was working for a housebuilder, I had no actual experience in construction. This apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to build a new career right from the foundations.“
7. Is there any advice that you can give to someone thinking about undertaking an apprenticeship?
“I suggest thoroughly researching what you want to do, how it will impact your work and the commitment it requires. You have to be careful that it doesn’t take over.”
