School set to light up the night sky

A village school is preparing to light up the skies once again as it gears up for its annual fireworks display.

Melbourn Primary's fireworks fundraiser will take place on Saturday 3rd November at Melbourn Village College, when the display will see all eyes fixed to the heavens.

This year the event is being supported by Hopkins Homes, which is due to open the marketing suite of its forthcoming Kingley Grove development in the village at the begining of 2019.

Alison Colley, a volunteer from Melbourn Primary School PTFA who is helping to organise the event, said: "The fireworks display has become one of the area's most popular and is a major fundraiser for the school.

"We are very grateful to Hopkins Homes for their donation which will allow more of the money from ticket sales and stalls to be spent on curriculum enhancing equipment and activities for the children. "It takes a tremedous amount of teamwork to organise the evening and we would like to thank all the volunteers who have kindly already given up their time to help us and to those who are dedicating their time on the night."

James Hopkins, executive chairman of Hopkins Homes, said: "We are very excited about the launch of our development in Melbourn in the new year. There's a fantastic community feeling within the village as shown by the team of volunteers who put the firework event together. "Helping to build strong communities, not just houses, is at the heart of our ethos so we are delighted to help the school's fundraising efforts."
