BURY ST EDMUNDS SOUTHEAST GROWTH AREA
St Edmundsbury Borough Council's Core Strategy identifies locations for future development around Bury St Edmunds. The Core Strategy details a town wide masterplan, called Bury St Edmunds VISION 2031, which will provide a co-ordinated spatial planning framework for the whole town. The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment has been engaged by Hopkins Homes Ltd and Pigeon to create a masterplan framework, in collaboration with the local community, to analyse the Southeast Growth Area in this context. The area is allocated for 1250 new homes, and essential infrastructure, community uses and other public amenities.
A shared vision for the sustainable growth of this part of Bury St Edmunds will be created with the engagement of the local community, building upon the area's existing and potential community capital. There were two groups of events open to the public. The first were the public drop-in meetings, held in February, and the second coincided with a three day Enquiry by Design workshop in March 2011, which was an innovative workshop involving local stakeholders to create initial ideas, strategies and plans for the area.
Draft concept plans will be provided in the near future.
