Planning permission granted for Beaulieu, Chelmsford

We are delighted to announce that we have gained approval of reserved matters for 246 new homes at Beaulieu in Chelmsford, Essex.

The 16-acre site, situated just 30 miles from London, was the first major acquisition for us since our acquisition by private equity firm Terra Firma in early 2022 and signals the company’s growth beyond our core East Anglian roots.

The development will offer a range of homes to suit all buyers, from one-bedroom apartments through to five-bedroom detached houses.  Nearly a third of these will be designated as essential affordable housing, offered through shared ownership and social rented schemes, providing crucial support to the local community.

Duncan Jackson, Managing Director of Hopkins Homes, said: “I am thrilled that we have been granted planning permission for this site, as it gives us the perfect opportunity to extend the delivery of our exquisite homes beyond our core East Anglian roots.

“Our reputation as a regional developer has flourished due to our unwavering commitment to craft, care and social responsibility.  We take great pride in creating spaces that people are genuinely proud to call home.”

The homes at Beaulieu will showcase a diverse range of masonry, incorporating warm red and buff bricks that beautifully contrast with sleek black weatherboarding.  Lush ornamental shrubs, native trees and hedgerows will further enhance the new homes, along with key notable features such as estate railings and balconies.

The new development will also include a small yet vibrant local retail centre and areas of public open space including The Ryde, a landscape corridor home to an existing oak tree.

Construction is expected to start on site in Summer 2024, with the first homes being completed in Spring 2025.
