Beaulieu Park Station Is Now Open: A Better-Connected Way to Live
Beaulieu has been designed as more than a collection of new homes. Schools, shops, green spaces and transport connections have been planned together to create an established community on the north-eastern edge of Chelmsford.
The opening of Beaulieu Park station in October 2025 marks an important new chapter for the area. Located within the wider Beaulieu district and approximately 1.5 miles from Hopkins Homes at Beaulieu, the station gives residents direct access to Chelmsford, Stratford, London and destinations across Essex and Suffolk.
A landmark new station for Chelmsford
Beaulieu Park station opened to passengers on 26 October 2025, becoming the first new station on the Great Eastern Main Line in more than 100 years.
Delivered by Network Rail in partnership with Essex County Council, Chelmsford City Council and wider funding and development partners, the station forms an important part of the transport infrastructure serving Beaulieu and north-east Chelmsford. It has been designed to make rail travel more accessible to the growing community while helping to reduce the need to drive into central Chelmsford to catch a train.
Chelmsford, London and beyond within easy reach
Direct services from Beaulieu Park make both everyday journeys and longer-distance travel more convenient.
Chelmsford city centre is just one stop away, with a journey time of approximately four minutes. Stratford can be reached in around 30 minutes and London Liverpool Street in around 40 minutes, making the station particularly valuable for commuters and hybrid workers. Travelling in the opposite direction, direct services reach Colchester in approximately 25 minutes, with connections also available to destinations including Ipswich, Clacton and Harwich.
During weekday peak periods, passengers can benefit from up to four trains an hour, with up to two services an hour during off-peak periods. This provides residents with greater flexibility, whether travelling to work every day, attending occasional meetings in the capital or planning a day out without the car.
Designed around the complete journey
The benefits of Beaulieu Park station extend beyond the train timetable. The station has been designed as a modern transport interchange, making it easier to arrive on foot, by bicycle, bus, taxi or car.
Passengers benefit from step-free access to every platform, lifts, staffed facilities, accessible toilets, baby-changing facilities, ticket machines, waiting areas and free Wi-Fi. A dedicated bus interchange sits beside the station building, while taxi bays and a short-stay pick-up and drop-off area support onward journeys.
For cyclists, there are 500 spaces across covered and secure storage areas. Two station car parks provide a total of 752 spaces, including Blue Badge bays and electric-vehicle charging points. These facilities give residents flexibility in how they travel to and from the station, depending on the journey, the weather and their individual needs.
Walking and cycling connections from Beaulieu
A network of footpaths and cycleways runs through the wider Beaulieu community, connecting its residential neighbourhoods with the station, schools, shops, green spaces and other local facilities.
New and upgraded routes around the station connect with existing paths from Beaulieu, Channels, Springfield and Chelmer Village. These links provide an alternative to driving for shorter journeys and make it possible to incorporate walking or cycling into the daily commute.
Within the Hopkins Homes neighbourhood, new mixed-use walking and cycling routes and crossing points connect into the wider network.
From Your Front Door to the Station in Minutes
The C9 service stops directly in front of Hopkins Homes at Beaulieu and runs straight to Beaulieu Park Bus & Rail Station, with the journey taking around four minutes. The route also provides convenient connections to Beaulieu Square, Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford railway station and the city centre.
Well connected by road
Beaulieu is positioned between the A12 and A130, giving residents convenient access to Chelmsford, the wider Essex road network and destinations farther afield.
The A131 Beaulieu Parkway, which opened in 2023, connects Essex Regiment Way and the A130 with the Boreham Interchange at Junction 19 of the A12. It also provides road access to Beaulieu Park station, creating a more direct connection while helping to reduce traffic on local roads through Springfield.
From the A12, residents can travel towards Brentwood, the M25 and east London or north towards Colchester and Suffolk. The A130 and A120 provide connections towards Braintree, the M11 and Stansted Airport, which is approximately 18 miles from Beaulieu by road.
More choice in how you travel
For residents of Hopkins Homes at Beaulieu, the opening of the station is about more than reducing a journey time. It offers greater choice in how people organise their working week, reach Chelmsford city centre, travel into London or explore destinations across Essex and Suffolk.
A regular commuter might cycle to the station and take a direct train to London. A family could reach Chelmsford in four minutes for shopping, leisure or entertainment. Hybrid workers can travel into the capital when needed without making the journey into Chelmsford first, while the bus interchange and step-free station facilities support people with a broad range of travel needs.
Together with Beaulieu’s walking and cycling network, local bus services and connections to the A12 and A130, the station strengthens Beaulieu’s position as one of Chelmsford’s best-connected new communities.
