Say hello to Hector the Hedgehog...
Moving home is an exciting milestone, and it can also feel a little overwhelming — especially for children. New places, new routines, and unfamiliar surroundings can be a lot to take in.
That’s why we introduce families to Hector the Hedgehog, our friendly mascot, from the moment they first visit a Hopkins Homes site. Hector is a little spiky on the outside and squishy on the inside. He’s gentle, curious, and always ready with a comforting hedgehog hug. With colouring books and activities to keep little hands busy while grown ups chat, he is a gentle reminder that this is a place created with families in mind. Hector helps make early visits feel warm, welcoming, and fun.
As families move through their homebuying journey, Hector becomes a familiar little character — someone children can recognise and feel reassured by as they imagine life in a new home. And when moving day finally arrives, that sense of familiarity can make a big difference, giving children something friendly and comforting to hold onto during a big change.
More than a mascot...
Hector the Hedgehog is more than just a character. He personifies our belief that creating a home starts long before the front door opens, and that feeling settled matters just as much for little homeowners as it does for grown-ups. He’s a symbol of our commitment to:
- Supporting wildlife and the environment
- Building thoughtful, sustainable communities
- Helping families feel at home from day one
By including small access routes between gardens and planning wildlife-friendly green spaces, we help hedgehogs move safely through our neighbourhoods. These simple but meaningful features allow wildlife to thrive alongside our communities... just the way Hector likes it.

Hedgehogs, bats, sparrows, song thrushes and stag beetles are all declining species in the UK, but if we manage our gardens to benefit wildlife, these creatures and many more will find refuge.
